You have a PC? You like it? That won't last long....
Believe me: The following story really happend! The names and dates are true!
It all began on 2005-12-02 (Friday) about 10 am. I just wanted to check something online but then it happend: I wasn’t able to go online! My PC told me that there was no driver installed. I asked myself why and where did it go? I thought it might be a problem that can be solved easily while I turn off my PC and let it rest for a few hours. Then I turned my PC on the next day but I still wasn’t able to go online! So I tried to solve this problem by myself the whole weekend – but I failed.
I decided to call the Telekom (my internet provider) on Monday (2005-12-05). Well about one hour, four employees, two deleted folders, one re-named folder and one deinstallation later the guys from the Telekom told me that the problem (the official status of my connecting management was over and couldn’t be re-started) which appeared on my PC can not be repaired by the Telekom but by the guys who build the PC. Because I was already very unnerved about this whole thing, I decided to send a fax (eMail didn’t work and picking up the phone made me react very aggressiv) to Medion (the guys who build the PC). Unfortunately no one reacted.
Thursday, 2005-12-08, I changed my mind and called Medion. So i told the employee about five minutes about my ‘beloved’ problem but this person only said: “I’ll connect you” After a short while (2 minutes or something like that) I talked to an employee that was a bit more capable. So I told this guy also my situation and that the Telekom told me that I have to call Medion. The first thing that the Medion employee answered me was: “No that’s wrong! The Telekom always says that but it’s totally false!” He also said to me that he’s normally not allowed to help me with this problem. You can imagine how happy I was in this moment... But he was a friendly guy so he said he will try to help me. So he searched a PC in a lonesome room and mentioned I have to put my PC back in the delivery state but then everything that is stored on disk drive ‘C’ will be deleted. My mood was getting ‘better’ and ‘better’! But the Medion guy said I only have to put everything that is important from disk drive ‘C’ to disk drive ‘D’ so nothing will happen to these files. But because it would take some time we finished our phone call and we decided to continue with it when I changed the disk drives. After I put every important file from disk drive ‘C’ to ‘D’ I called Medion again so they can help with putting my PC back in the delivery state (the guy I talked to earlier said I should call again so they would help me). So there was a woman in the line and I told her that I have to talk with an employee who can help me putting my PC back in the delivery state. The woman put me in the waiting line...aftrer 20 minutes (NO – I AM NOT KIDDING!!!) I was so aggressiv and one of my ears was deaf because of this cruel music that was playing in th waiting line. I hung up! I took my handbook that I bought - fortunately - with my PC in April 2005. And guess what!? There was a chapther about putting a PC back in the delivery state! So I followed the instructions and rules I put my PC back in the delivery state by myself – all alone! After everything was put back to somewhere I was finally able to get a connection to the internet. And that was on Thursday, 2005-12-08, 7 pm.
You think that’s all? No – I experienced more than you thought!
Two days later (Saturday 2005-12-10) my brother visited me and asked me to write a little letter for him. So I installed my Microsoft Works Suite that I bought 5months ago. After I re-started my PC and I was asked to fill in my Pruduct Key. While I was happy about my internet connection I tipped in the Product Key. Unfortunatley my illusion of a perfect PC was destroyed earlier than I thought. “The Pruduct Key is invalid!” I tried to fill in the Product Key once more and one more and once more and....But as you can imagine: everytime I got thie frustrating message about the invalid PK! But I am a lucky child and this lucky child has internet connection. I send an eMail to the Microsoft support. Because it was Saturday I knew I won’t get a reply within the next two days.
On Monday, 2005-12-12. I got an answer. The answer was like everything else that happend to me in the last 1 ½ weeks: fucked up! The guye from the support wrote that they aren’t able to help me – I should ask the technical support.
The next day (Tuesday 2005-12-13) I went online to ask the technical support. I read the whole Microsoft website because I was hoping to find an eMail adress from the technical suppport....but I have to tell you: there’s not a website like that – only in my dreams! I had to click myself through al components that Microsoft offers to dumb people like I was. Then I had to tell them the ID of my PC – so I did. But there was one of those messages that I love that told me: The ID is invalid! But there was still the opportunity that Microsoft searches for the ID on my PC – I let them search. But they had no success. Oh and they wanted to know which technical support I prefer: the one that costs 49,95 € or the one that costs 75 €?! I decided to take none of them. But I got the idea why Bill Gates is the richest man on earth – just produce broken and default PCs and software and if anyone needs support he or she has to call a very expensive hotline very they have to wait for hours and then have to choose which support they want (expensive or even more expensive) and last but not least they get the advice that they have to buy a new PC. I really wasn’t able to choose a support so that I registered at the Microsoft newsgroup (I was surprised: you don’t have to pay for the newsgroups) and finally one day later another user was able to help me! If your PC will ever show a message that something is over or can’t be re-started ort hat it is invalid: Buy a new one instead of calling any supports because it will cost you less than calling the support! And you wanna know how to have fun with your old PC fort he last time? Here’s the answer: Throw it out of the window!
